Training We offer budding surgeons an amazing opportunity to practice under the tutelage of the world-renowned Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala and his vastly experienced team. By the end of their stint they can hope to imbibe all the essential skills needed to practice bariatric and digestive surgeries plus a sound understanding of nutritional counseling.

CODS fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric Surgery

The fellowship program comprises of hands on training in bariatric surgery with the opportunity to assist in more than 400 cases, which include surgeries such as Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic and Single Incision Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Banding, BIB insertions/removal and Revisional Bariatric surgery. The aim of the program is to produce a competent bariatric surgeon proficient in all the nuances of this specialized field. In addition to this the surgeons are also exposed to advanced general surgery laparoscopic procedures like Fundoplications, Pancreatic surgeries, Thoracoscopies, Adrenalectomy, Colorectal surgeries, etc.

Clinical research lies at the core of this program. Fellows are encouraged to conduct clinical trials and make presentations at national and international meetings. Other than maintaining a log of all the cases during their fellowship period it is also mandatory for them to be the first author of at least one publication. Apart from the highly recommended 1 year CODS Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery, we also offer the following courses:

  • CODS Bariatric Surgery Observership Program - Duration of 3 months
  • CODS Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery - Duration of 6 months

The Course Calendar for 2015-16 is as follows:

  • 1 Year CODS Fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery
    • April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016 - Available

When to apply: Applications are received on a rolling basis. You need to apply first and we will contact you depending upon the availability of the fellowship.

Eligibility: Selection is purely based on merit. Candidates with clinical publications and previous experience in basic or advanced laparoscopy will be given preference.

International Students:

  • International candidates can apply to the program but need to do so six months before the start date of the program. Information about the program will be made available on the website, Please submit your applications and we'll inform you about the start date.
  • International candidates will also need to register with the Medical Council of India. Click here to apply
  • Then download form no. 7: Application for Foreigners for Temporary Permission u/s 14(1) to foreign national holding non-schedule medical qualification.
*Fellowships are conducted at two centers - Mumbai and Delhi.

CODS Observership Program

Surgeons and physicians from around the world can now enroll in our program to observe our surgeons perform live surgical demonstrations. This program is recommended to any surgeon or physician who has a keen interest in Bariatric and Laparoscopic surgery. The duration of the program varies from 3 days to 1 week.

CODS Bariatric Nutrition Training Program

Bariatric Nutrition Training is one of the unique courses offered by CODS. It gives budding nutritionists a chance to learn about the importance of nutrition in correlation with the success of bariatric surgeries. The syllabus covers nutritional content and also hands-on patient interaction and counseling. The program is conducted under the expert guidance of our bariatric nutritionist Carlyne Remedios. The duration of the program is 2 days to 1 week .
